Print : Family Biography | Mengimbau Waris Salbiah
Pages : 110 pages
Size : 210 mm x 297 mm
Client : Hidayati

It’s been quite challenging when you have such a small print project with such a big number of family involved. What actually I meant is about the previous print project I had which took me great courage and strong passion to get the job done in the end. There are 7 generation line up for this biography to complete and comes in Malay language with 110 colored pages. The pages filtered with matt sandy grunge textures, I also added some classic map of peninsular Malaysia as the overall background.

biography-mengimbau-waris-salbiah-38-75.jpg

The biography tells us about a journey of one ‘Minang’ lady from ‘Tanjung’ ethnic group in Indonesia with great strength in raising her children until her last breath. The story was believed began since the year 1900 at a small village called Pariaman at Padang, west coast of Sumatera, Indonesia.

biography-mengimbau-waris-salbiah-in-38-75.jpg

Dispute of misunderstanding between her family, Salbiah later moved to Medan, northern part of Sumatera and married to a guy named Osman. The journey to Medan took her 30 days to reach Medan by walked with all her children.

After the death of her husband, Osman, she later moved to Johor, Malaysia (during that time was ‘Tanah Melayu’) and brought all of her children Tajid, Noyah, Jo’aing, Fatimah and Serianin along to lived and worked in Johor.

In Johor, the environment and work wasn’t really what she expected, with a salary of six cents a day, Salbiah later moved to Klang, Selangor seeking for better opportunities with her children. She finally settled happily in a small village at Batu 12, Kapar in Klang with her children and since then, the next generation continues..

collection of old recovered photos from seven generations

This Biography finally been printed out and distributed to all of Salbiah’s remaining generations on a small family gathering and I’m honored not because being the official designer behind all the hard works, but I’m truly honored to be part of the Salbiah’s great journey. May her soul rest in peace.. amin!
