romelbelga_contrived.jpg

Briefly tell us little bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m Romel “Boiberds” Belga. A fine Arts, major in Visual Communication and Design. I’m a graphic artist here in the Philippines. I’m an artist in a lot of ways, I love Creating and visualising new ideas of piece of Art. I play drums with my band “BLANKO” when I’m not working, I really love listening to different kinds of genre, I use Music as my tone in creating a piece of art.

romelbelga_becoming_missarwana.jpg

Where do you source for good inspirations?
My major inspiration/influences are the surreal digital artists, as well as the surealists painters. I began to evolve my own style by first copying the style of those i admire.

romelbelga_black_hole_sun.jpg

How is your frequent design working process like? how long would it takes to finish?
Starting with a cliche idea and finding the right photos and elements which I think will fit into my design.
Either starting point probably moves toward the other, but they won’t likely end at the exact same place.
Combining all the elements that I think will fit in the artwork that Im doing. Just perfectly ajusting all the colors, lightings and shadows of the photos to make it more attractive and looked as one. For personal works there is no rule, if I have a strong idea and a clear final vision I can finish it in 1-2 days, as it was for my series. From the time I start my art piece I work with the music, I listen to it while working. It all affects how I design.

romelbelga_baby_come_back.jpg

Can you tell us which are your most favorite artwork and why?
I would say, “Baby come back” the man with the island in his head. I created this piece based on my experience. Haha! I just like it for now, but maybe in future it might change my perspective as I like trying new things.

romelbelga_misarwana.jpg

How did you improve the skills and ideas in your drawing techniques?
You might have heard of it before but really, practice makes perfect. I usually play around the design I’m working on. Trying different things until I get what I exactly want. There’s nothing wrong with it and you will be able to learn a lot from it. The key is to get out of your comfort zone.

romelbelga_the_god_of_smoke.jpg

What are the softwares + hardwares you currently use to create the artworks?
Mainly I just use Adobe Photoshop, it is the program with the most possibilities for configuration, adjustments and tools.

romelbelga_the_gymnast.jpg

Tell us about your mentor or idol?
The first person comes in my mind is Peter Jaworowski all though his style is different from mine. All his works are just amazing, so clean, organized and highly conceptualized. Its just awesome! Here’s the link to his works hejz.com and I understand that Jaworowski is been interviewed by you before which makes me feels this interview to be such an honor to be featured at EsharkDesign.

romelbelga_the_mask_of_sorrow.jpg

What are your coming projects? and what are your goals or future plans for your career?
Right now im still doing my new artwork, you may check out my links for updates shadowness.com/boiberds and behance.net/boiberds. Just like the wish of most of us, I wish to be known worldwide. Definitely, I will continue creating digital/Surreal artworks, continue growing and improving more and more in this field that i have chosen.

romelbelga_the_san_telmo_meditation.jpg

What are the biggest achievement you’ve achieved so far?
Hmmm.. Right now my works had been featured in different sites such as shockblast.netdigitalartserved.comart-spire.com and I’ve done some interviews in online magazines.

romelbelga_the_spiral_staircase.jpg

If you’re not a designer/illustrators, what will you possibly be by now?
I would’ve concentrated in the band I’m in right now.

What sort of advice you can share to young designers and illustrators out there?

Interview with Rokas Mezetis: Creative Digital Artist

Posted by Eshark on Jul 20th, 2010

Hi guys! Today, we’re going to have an interview with one talented + young designer from Lithuania. At first, seeing all his art piece makes me wonder that the artist have such great talent with wide experience, but eventually he is just 18 years old.. man.. it probably took me twice his age to get similar skills he has now.

I introduce to all.. Rokas Mezetis, I can assume that Rokas is one of very talented digital artist for sports illustrated that you’ve never heard before.. Read on the interview after the jump.

rokasmezetiks_dwaynewade.jpg

Briefly tell us little bit about yourself and what you do?
Hello, my name is Rokas Mezetis. I am 18 years old digital artist working under creative identity of Romen. I live, study and work as a freelance graphic designer in my hometown Klaipeda, situated in the west part of Lithunia by the Baltic sea shore. I like sports, especially basketball, movies and all sorts of art.

rokasmezetiks_motion.jpg

When you first started got interested into art and design?
Actually, it was my best friend Tadas, who introduced me to digital graphics when I was 14 years old. He showed me this amazing software called Photoshop and taught me some basic stuff. At first we were playing with liquify filter and making forum tags, but later, we moved on to bigger canvas. Eventually digital graphics became my hobby and it would be wonderful if this hobby would turn out to be my profession later on in life.

rokasmezetiks_lithunianationalteam.jpg

Describe to us briefly of what’s your typical day of work.
Since I am still at school, studying for my A levels, a usual day starts by getting out of my bed and going to school. After school I often get some rest at home and do the everyday chores. I am working as a freelance graphic designer, so I spend my evenings either working on some sort of projects or sometimes being lazy or watching movies.

rokasmezetiks_kevindurant.jpg

If you don’t mind telling, where do you usually source for good inspiration?
I usually find all that I need at Abduzeedo, DeviantArt and Behance messages keeps me informed about all the amazing artwork of fellow designers so it‘s quite enough for me to get inspired. Music and nature is also a great way to get inspired.

rokasmezetiks_dwighthoward.jpg

Can you tell us among many of your creative art piece, which are your most favorite one and why?
It‘s so hard to chose one, but I think my selection would be the “Dwight Howard“ ADIDAS wallpaper. The creation process was very interesting because I used a lot of new techniques and the final product had a lot of positive comments about the piece, so it looks like a successful wallpaper.

rokasmezetiks_elegance.jpg

Once you start working on a piece or design work, what is your frequent working process like?
I usually start with a rough sketch. First of all I make myself an image with no effects or small detail, just to know where thing will be and how should the composition look. After I‘m happy with the “sketch“ I start working with the detail. I think that the most important part of an image is lightning, so I spend a big part of my time working with lights and shadows as the final stage of the creative process.

rokasmezetiks_redwonder.jpg

How did you improve your design work and techniques?
In the beginning I was making forum tags and posting them at some sport forums to receive comments, critique and advice. That was really helpful at that time. I used to read tutorials at different websites, but I never followed them, because that seemed to be pointless. Instead, I tried to use and apply all the knowledge I gained from the tutorials for my personal artwork. That and experimenting by myself led me to where I am now and there are still plenty of space for me to improve.

rokasmezetiks_wintersurprise.jpg

What are the softwares + hardwares you currently use to produce your such magnificent art?
I use a single desktop computer with windows7. I work with Photoshop to fulfill my ideas and sometimes cinema4d to make some 3d resources. I also have a Wacom Bamboo tablet which helps me a lot.

rokasmezetiks_rogerfederer.jpg

If you don’t mind telling us again, what are your coming projects? and what are your goals or future plans for your career?
Nothing in specific really. I have stared working on new wallpaper and a mate painting so these may be the new images from me. I am also think about Evoke and my entries for the new art pack. My goals for the new future are to update my portfolio with some strong artwork and to create a professional personal image for myself.

rokasmezetiks_prodigy.jpg

If you’re not a designer/illustrators, what will you possibly be now?
I would be the same student, but with way less creativity and colors in my life. Computer graphics helps me to relax and express myself in great ways, so it would be boring without it.

rokasmezetiks_cresendo.jpg

What sort of advice you can share to those young designers and illustrators out there who are just started their carrier?
I don‘t know if I‘m experienced enough to provide advices, but never the less I will. No matter what people say and how bad situation looks, just keep reaching your goals and prove that these people were wrong about you. Keep working and experimenting and you will be good in no time.

rokasmezetis_0531.jpg

Lastly, me at esharkdesign.com would like to say thank you very much again for this interview and wishing you all the best! to finalize, I leave the last words for you.
It was my pleasure, thank you for the opportunity. For my final word I would like to wish all the best for esharkdesign.com, and to all fellow readers and designers.

Interview with Malaysian Digital Artist : Ee Venn Soh

Posted by Eshark on Dec 8th, 2009

Hi folks!
Today, we’re going to have another interview for another great inspiration, this time I’m lucky that I’ve manage to have an interview with one self-taught designer coming from my country, Malaysia. I introduce to all.. the young talented Malaysian designer named Venn.

versus.jpg

Briefly tell us little bit about yourself and what you do?
Hi, my name is Ee Venn Soh (1986b. Malaysia). I am a self-taught designer which I work under the creative identity of EIII. I just finished my university study in Computer Science and will be venturing into UX / Front-End, Interactive Designing and Software Development. At the moment, I will be doing an internship with a big advertising firm in KL and next year 2010, I will be working in one of New Zealand’s most reputable and high-awarded studio, Resn. Everything seems pretty smooth-sailing for me.

space-opera.jpg

When you first started got interested into art and design?
I can’t really remember when I really start doing artworks. But I could remember I were inspired by the vast possibilities and imagination an artwork can bring to the audiences. I think it is really amazing how an artist can execute their ideas and concept within an image.

apple.jpg

Describe to us briefly of what’s your typical day of work.
Study + Study + Study were what I have been doing before that. My formal education has greatly interfered with my learning. As a computer science student, a logical and analytical mind is a must. It is kind of hard to find a balance between computer science and my self-taught designing. However I do manage to squeeze some time for my passion. I will spend some time reading articles and design-related articles. Constantly absorbing what is happening around the industry and learning from the top leaders in the market. Once a while during the weekends, I will try my hand on some experimental pieces. But now university is over so do expect more works from me!

silver-maiden.jpg

If you don’t mind telling, where do you usually source for good inspiration?
You may find these interesting.. ffffound, dropular, formfiftyfive, typeneu, typojungle, welcometohr, lovelypackage and butdoesitfloat

Can you tell us among many of your creative art piece, which are your most favorite one and why?
There aren’t any “most” or “less”. I love every single one equally. However, I could say the one that is pretty unique and fresh if compare with the rest - “Silver Maiden”. It is another collaboration between me and very talented Poland photographer Piotr. I tried to keep things small and minimal to prevent from overwhelming the main subject. I added the red lips to compensate the monotonous silver grey. It is always nice to work on nice photo. It gives me borderless creativity inputs.

tiger-beer.jpg

Once you’re start working on a piece or design work, what’s your frequent working process like?
I would normally spend some time thinking and crafting my ideas for the piece. I will get the necessary resources needed for my execution. I start by cleaning up the photo and do some tones adjustments. Next, I will perform photo manipulations to get all my photo stocks in place. Followed by adding shapes, lights and colors around the piece. Lastly, with everything blend into place I will do some final detailed changes and an overall tone adjustment.

How did you improve your design work and techniques?
Constant experimenting and study across tons of different artworks with different styles and genres.

purple.jpg

What are the softwares + hardwares you currently use to produce your such magnificent art?
Photoshop and illustrator. I am currently running on a 4GB ram, 256 mb graphics laptop. I will be getting another mobile monster soon with 8GB ram and 1 GB graphics laptop. I am a PC guy.

If you don’t mind telling us again, what are your coming projects? and what are your goals or future plans for your career?
Yup, as I mentioned earlier above I will be doing an internship in Malaysia and work in New Zealand. Preparing myself and dreaming of becoming the next digital superhero!

lange.jpg

If you’re not a designer/illustrators, what will you possibly be now?
Most likely studying chemistry and become a chemist just like my dad and brother.

the-lark.jpg

What sort of advice you can share to those young designers and illustrators out there that are just starting their carrier now?
Stay in love in with what you believe. Hold on to your ineffable feeling of affection towards arts. Stay hungry for knowledge.

Lastly, me at esharkdesign.com would like to say thank you very much again for this interview and wishing you all the best! to finalize, I leave the last words for you.
Thanks for the interview. “Being passionate in what you love.” It is the most powerful tool in everything and all aspects of life.

Those who interested to see more of Venn’s creative art piece, feel free to drop by at Venn’s Behance portfolio site, most of Venn’s artwork sure will break your jaw.. and wish you all having great time reading the interview.. more interviews coming soon. Briefly tell us little bit about yourself and what you do?
My name is Ricardo Nobre, I’m 33 years old and I am manager in a jewelry store here in Rio de Janeiro and also have passion for art.

mixed-art_by_ricardonobre.jpg

When you first started got interested into art and design?
Well, since my childhood I always drew with pen and paper but my encounter with digital art especially with Photoshop mostly happened just twenty months ago when I needed to make a banner for the jewelry store where I work. Since then I never gave up this wonderful software called Photoshop.

miss-war_by_ricardonobre.jpg

Describe to us briefly of what’s your typical day of work.
Well, as I’ve mentioned earlier, I worked ten hours a day at the jewelry store weekly. For this reason I have very little time to dedicate myself into digital art and creating new artworks, however when I got some free time I try to get my hands for creating new works. I love it and really enjoy what I can do playing with Photoshop and was hoping that one day I have more time to devote into digital art.

unreal-2010_by_ricardonobre.jpg

If you don’t mind telling, where do you usually source for good inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere, inspiration is actually around you, on the street, cloud, flame, movies, magazines, within all directions which you look closely you will see good inspiration. Of course, the great artists also bring us some good inspiration, but a watchful eye can see inspiration in almost everywhere.

the-biker_by_ricardonobre.jpg

Can you tell us among many of your creative art piece, which are your most favorite one and why?
This one is quiet hard to answer.. Each of new design work is always my favorite. I always learning something new in every new design work that I develop. play-my-rock_by_ricardonobre.jpg

Once you’re start working on a piece or design work, what’s your frequent working process like?
Well, my creative process does not follow any rules. Sometimes, when I start on a project or an idea, there will always a little different from my original idea even though I have followed the idea from the first place. Also happens sometimes, I was drawing my idea on a sketch just for some test drawing, but in the end the result are really cool. That’s the way I worked which usually end up pretty cool.

all-yellow_by_ricardonobre.jpg

How did you improve your design work and techniques?
I can say that practicing is a good techniques to improve your skills, do some new experiment on your design techniques and read lots of good tutorials which I’m pretty sure really helps very much.

What are the software + hardware you currently use to produce your such magnificent art?
My main software is without any doubt is the ADOBE Photoshop. But, sometimes I also use the Xara 3d ADOBE illustrator. I’ve never use any plugins, it was fun enough for me to do everything using only the Photoshop tools.

duoform-style_by_ricardonobre.jpg

If you don’t mind telling us again, what are your coming projects? and what are your goals or future plans for your career?
I have several projects in mind and some scratches in hand but I don’t have much time to do it all, many of them were started but have not yet been finalized, as I will keep it confidential for now. I really hope to work professionally as a digital artist and I’m looking for my place in this world of digital art. Currently, I’m still looking for more exposure and recognition and I’m sure that not only me but many talented artists will also find their place.

If you’re not a designer/illustrators, what will you possibly be now?
Well, as I mentioned I’m 33 years old manager in a jewelry store here in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I’m pretty sure I’ll get my space as digital artist too. I trust in God and he always help me.

broken_by_ricardonobre.jpg

What sort of advice you can share to those young designers and illustrators out there that are just starting their carrier now?
Well, my advice is to practice as much as possible. Photoshop is a whole universe with thousands of possibilities and you will only improve if you practice, practice and keep practice. But never forget to practice other types of activities too and if you can try to play soccer as well as we Brazilians.. heheh!

inspiration-art_by_ricardonobre.jpg

As I’ve mentioned earlier, I decided to start everything back in two years ago, but my journey only started much earlier. I always loved to draw and sketch. Couple of years ago i didn’t even think about graphic design was so much fun to learn, until one day I’ve installed Photoshop on my Mac and I started to fall in love with it. During my younger time, everything I do was done just for fun. But now everything is so clear where I have my dreams and future plans are precisely connected with graphic design. Now, I just can’t live without one single day in front of my mac, watching ads, prints, and playing with PS.

Can you describe briefly of what’s your typical day of work flow
My typical day of work… Hmmm, it’s actually depends on my mood. During the previous last two months, I’ve been busy with school projects and interns with Interactive Agency from Lodz. Now I spent most of my free time chilling out with my girlfriend, family and friends. Also I’ve thinking of my future plans/projects from time to time now, but all that will soon change as I will move to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, and that’s my priority now. Asking the question, i just woke up, have some tea, launch internet browser to search lots of inspirations and finally I start to create/draw something in Photoshop. I can spent all day in front of my Mac when everything is smooth, until sometimes I forget about dinner, but for me it’s normal and that’s how my life goes.

If you don’t mind telling, where do you usually source for good inspiration?
Hundreds of bookmarked sites like : www.ibelieveinadv.com, www.digitalabstracts.com, thefwa.com etc. and of course behance.net. There are lots of great designers!! interesting places, creative peoples, words, good movies and cool MUSIC… About two years ago, I had great time at Reykjavik, Iceland, where i found lots of inspirations and Some of them are still fresh in my mind :)

What is your frequent working process like once you’ve started working on a piece or design work?
I try to break the conventional way of thinking. When I started to work on some projects, I always look on it in a different way. But mostly idea will comes first, then I will look for some stocks, after that sketching will come in handy, planning and when everythings appear to be ok, then only I’ll start to make it clean, more orderly. The hardest part during this process is at the end result, I try to make it perfect, but it will ended up with more days to finish it, when I can finaly see a daylight. There are some points where sometimes I feel like want to give up, because I’m not satisfied of the result. But, ussually I came back to that project with clean and full of new ideas after having a break for couple of weeks which makes my works more fresh.

Can you tell us little bit of how did you improve your design work techniques?
Work, work and work. Hours of work each day, and I am still not skilled as I wish I am. I met lots of people, but there were only few of nice people who helped me. I had to work by myself which actually helps me a lot.

feelit_by_arturnapierajczyk.jpg

What are your preferred choice of softwares + hardwares to produce your such stunning art?
Currently I’m working on my 20″ Mac + Wacom tablet, while for softwares that I currently used is Photoshop CS3, Flash and Illustrator CS3. I had a history of using a broken mouse and 14” dispaly and using an old MS Paint. I still remember when I was first started my first website which was done in Paint where I to create site pixel by pixel for couple of daystake, but the results were quite awesome though.

desire_by_arturnapierajczyk.jpg

What are your coming projects? and what are your goals of being successful graphic designer?
I have a lot of ideas and plans and I will certainly finish up 2 of my uncoming projects till the end of the holiday season. My goals… when I think of it every time my eyes closed, I think of Paris or Stockholm.. Yeah! that would be great place. But right now I can only just dream, the focus is what I do today. I hope that moving to Warsaw will be a great opportunity and will change my life diametrically. I also hope that it would be a right place since there are lots of excellent agencies around.

eos_by_arturnapierajczyk.jpg

If you’re not a designer, what will you be today?
I didn’t really thought of it. Maybe a footballer (I love it) or maybe a guitarist. But now i can only speculate. I choose that way and I think that is the only way. I’m happy of what I am doing now and I just can’t imagine a different scenario.

What advice can you share for fresh designers and illustrators out there that are just starting their carrier now?
Never give up! Really, that’s the only advice I can share. Simply but true. I don’t feel that I have that all experience for giving people advices. There are lots of more experienced and talented designers out there. Ask them, don’t be afraid as everything will come in handy on a right time. Always be patient and when you wake up, enjoy yourself every day. It will make you much better. Find your own style, your own inspirations and find a way of telling your own story.

Interview with UK Designer & Illustrator : Olly Howe

Posted by Eshark on Aug 18th, 2009

Hi everyone!

Have you guys enjoy + learn something useful from the previous interview with Yuta Onada? Today, I’m giving you guys more great interview to read on, let me start with very talented designers from London, United Kingdom named Olly.

olly-howe_asia-specific-mono.jpg

Firstly, tell us briefly little bit about yourself and what you do?
My name is Olly Howe and i am a designer & Illustrator from East London.

olly-howe_tigress-the-2nd.jpg

When you first got interested about art and design?
I went to university to design boats but the first year was all Maths and Physics, which I’m terrible at, so I quit the course and did an HND in Graphic Design at the local Art College. I haven’t looked back since.

olly-howe_it-girl.jpg

For how long have you been a designer and what keeps you going for more?
Its been 6 years since I left college and I’ve been working on  commissions since then. I love the ever developing technology of Photoshop and the amount you can do with the program, there is always something new to learn and always new ways to apply these techniques to your work. This enables me to develop further as an artist and creates new and exciting challenges everyday.

olly-howe_sheila.jpg

Can you describe briefly of what’s your typical day of work.
Wake up at 8am and change my son’s nappy, I then spend the first few hours answering emails, doing interviews and other admin and then i will get stuck into any current projects at about 11am. I try to work out my plan for the day the night before, this enables me to design with a clear head. I always write things down as well, it means my brain doesn’t have to worry about things like remembering who I have to invoice that day. I’ll usually try and get away from the computer for a couple of hours at about 2ish, this usually means going to the skatepark or going out on my fixed gear bike. I finish around 7ish unless I am really busy, which is most of the time.

olly-howe_kiss-the-girls.jpg

If you don’t mind telling, where do you usually source for good inspiration?
I draw a lot of inspiration from other artists. People like Neil Duerden, Peter Jaworski, Vault 49, 2 Advanced. My favorite artist at the moment is Karol Kolodzinski from Poland.

olly-howe_a-fille-daigle-low-res.jpg

What is your frequent working process like once you’ve started working on a piece or design work?
I wouldn’t say I have a fixed way of working. When producing my own illustrations I don’t really start with solid ideas for what I want the final image to look like, I like to just let things happen, this is the beauty of working in Photoshop. Even mistakes can lead to better results. I like to work in this free way.

olly-howe_gone-with-the-wind.jpg

How did you improve your design work and illustration techniques?
In the early days I used to do a lot of tutorials, both online and in magazines, I still check out the odd one from time to time. Nowadays it’s more about fine tuning all the techniques that I’ve learnt along the way and also understanding how different combinations of Photoshop tools and filters can work together to produce unique results.

olly-howe_tsingtao-beer-ad.jpg

What are your preferred choice of software + hardware that you currently use to produce your such magnificent art?

All of these things help with my work both directly and indirectly.
Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, Wacom Tablet, 24inch iMAC, Samsung HD digital camera, Sony noise cancelling headphones.

olly-howe_olly-t-shirt.jpg

If you don’t mind telling again, what are your coming projects? and What are your goals or future plans for your career?
I’ve been working on my own stuff a lot recently. My new website has just gone live and I’ve just brought out my first limited edition tshirt, this is something I want to do more of, I would like to possibly start my own clothing label at some point. You can check out the t shirts on my website, there are still a few left. I’ve also recently had 4 new limited edition prints go up for sale on the clickforart website.

olly-howe_x-funs-magazine-cover.jpg

If you’re not a designer or illustrators, what will you be now?

Hopefully I would have been a professional skateboarder, well I can dream

What advice can you share for fresh designer and illustrators out there that are just starting their carrier now?
If you want to become an illustrator then try and develop your own style. If you don’t have any commissions then produce your own  personal work and try and get a portfolio together that reflects the field of illustration you want to work in. The more unique your work the more likely it is that you will be noticed. Bigger clients  are always on the look out for fresh approaches to their campaigns. Once you have a strong portfolio just send it to people, send it to all the clients you would like to work for, if the work is good you will eventually get a response.

olly-howe_the-tigress.jpg

Lastly, me at esharkdesign.com would like to say big thank you for this interview and wishing you all the best towards your carrier and to finalize.. I leave the last words for you.
Work is work but don’t take things to seriously, try and have fun with what you do and this will come across in your portfolio.
