Photoshop Tutorials 02 : CREATING A LOGO REFLECTION

Hi there.. Welcome again! When you say about music on Mac, everybody will think about iTunes. If you are familiar with iTunes, then you should already knew with this kind of feature where you can view the Music album by scrolling side by side while see the reflections on the lower part. On this tutorial, I’ll share with you guys the same idea on how to create a something like water or mirror reflections of your logo. For this tutorial, I’ll be using my own Eshark Design.

STEP 1 : Open your Logo in a new layer (click the ‘create a new layer’ button on the Layers pallete) and fill the background with Gradient Overlay, any color would do as long as the upper part is lighter while lower part much darker.

STEP 2 : To apply Gradient Overlay for your background, simply click the ‘Add a layer style’ icon on the far left lower part of your Layers pallete (Click Mac: Apple+F7 / PC: Ctrl+F7).

STEP 3 : Click right on the Gradient color swatches and the Gradient Editor will pop up. This where you will choose your gradient color presents you like. For this tutorial, I choose ‘The Moon Bar’ and the roughness is set to 35%.
Tip : set the percentage for Roughness lower for smoother background, set the percentage higher to get the opposite effect.

STEP 4 : Okay! At this point you now have two new layers, one is ‘Logo’ and another one is ‘background’. Next step is to ‘add a layer style’ to the logo which is ‘Outer Glow’. Set the opacity to 50% and for the size is up to you as long it’s not to big. See the effect where the logo has some glow effect from the edges.

STEP 5 : Now, you have to duplicate the Logo to a new layer, to do this.. simply drag the ‘Logo’ layer down to ‘the create a new layer’ button and then name this layer as ‘Reflection’. Of course you cannot see the new Logo since the Logo was overlapping to the old one.

STEP 6 : Next is to drag the new logo which is ‘Reflection’ to the bottom part of the old logo using the ‘Move Tool’ (press v).
Tip : drag while holding Shift key for straight allingment.
Then on the ‘Reflection’ layer selected, go to Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical, this will make the new logo turns the opposite way.. think of a mirror! then you’ll understand.

STEP 7 : Then on the Layers pallete, set the Fill to 20% or less.. and see the effect!

STEP 8 : Now, click the Rectangular Marquee Tool (press Shift + M) on the toolbar and make one long oval shape something like this and place it right in between of those two logos. Then go to Select>Inverse, by selecting this, the area that been selected by Rectangular Marquee Tool is been reversed.

STEP 9 : Now your photoshop window will look like something like this. Apply a Feather to the selected area by pressing (Shift+F6) or go to Select>Feather and set the pixels to 15 px.

STEP 10 : Start to press DELETE and you’ll notice the effect… Waalah!!
Keep practicing + play with it! Once you get the rhythms then you’ll become addicted, and once you become addicted to Photoshop.. there’s nothing you CANNOT photoshoped!! He! He! Enjoy everyone….
Here’s another sample for public viewing.. till we meet up next Friday!
